Greetings from Granbury 2
Spring

We’re doing fine, but complain of sore muscles all the time, it seems. We’re busy working on the landscaping here. Could it be that we're digging too many holes? We have probably enjoyed this spring more than any other in our past. That was not because the winter was severe or even long, but because the landscape is so beautiful.

Granbury area probably cannot claim any records regarding Texas bluebonnet production, but there are quite a few patches in our area. We enjoyed driving by this scene on our way to town all through April and May. Bluebonnet fieldThe people said they didn’t sow any seed, they were volunteers. This is their back yard, and they’re waiting until they go to seed before mowing. The whole countryside provides for scenic driving where-ever we go. This is something new for both of us.

We have our own bluebonnet

too. This little guy now has seed pods that we hope will provide next year’s crop. Much of our lawn looks like the background of the bluebonnet. The builder "checker-boarded" a sod lawn.  So, to level it, we had to have a lot of sand hauled in and spread between the blocks of sod. What a mess!

We are planning to build a shop for projects with a corner for winter plant storage. Naturally, the only site is in the lowest spot in the back yard, right where the rainwater drains. So we’ve got to rearrange the natural flow of rainwater across the back yard. We’ve worked at accomplishing that, and have had the opportunity to test our work. And we’re still taking bids on the building.

Owen's pipeling The picture at right shows Owen covering his pipeline. It carries rainwater from the gutter at the back of the house to the middle of the yard where it will flow behind the building site. The down spout just to the right of the middle-ground tree is attached to the other end of Owen’s pipeline.

We have almost completely replaced the plants in the raised planting bed in front of the house. Now that the weather is getting warm, we learned that it’s better to plant in the morning and loaf in the afternoon instead of being lazy and getting a late start at whatever outside work we want to do.

Our driveway looks like a plant sales yard. The potted roses in the picture at the right will go into the raised planter bed behind Owen in the picture of the building site below. Now over Plant sales yard

filled with builders sand used to build up the pad for the foundation, we’ve been working on removing the surplus. Picture below features the site of the proposed shop building. Rainwater naturally drains right through the middle of this area on its way downhill.

We’re busy all the time, but enjoying our new home too. We enjoy watching the various creatures that find their here too.

squirrels This is a mama and her two babies checking out the view one morning recently. One afternoon after a rain some wild ducks dropped by on their afternoon stroll.

That's all for now, until next time.
Best Regards to all ... Pat
