Papeete, Tahiti

Trip Day Sixteen: Sunday, October 7, 2007

Papeete Dock

No activity in the park on this Sunday morning. Perhaps things will speed up later.

Passengers Continue To Trickle Off The Ship

We could have disembarked and walked into town for a look around, but we figured that 4 hours on a 4-wheel-drive in the interior of the island would be enough fun for one day, and that assumption proved to be correct.

According to the partial city map in the Princess Port Guide to Papeete, the little semi-circular park jutting into the harbor is the site to a monument honoring Charles de Gaulle, esteemed former Primier of France. We are on the north side of Tahiti Nui
(Big Tahiti) the larger of the two islands that make up Tahiti.
The other island is Tahiti Iti (Little Tahiti).

The foreground of this picture shows us another big pier for cruise ships.
We don't know how many ships call here, but we do know that several cruise lines include Tahiti on regular itineraries.
