Ushuaia, Argentina

Magellan Penguins

Day 16: Saturday, January 19, 2002
(Magellan is pronounced Mah - gee - on
The gee is with a hard g, like in Magee.)

We arrived at the penguin colony at 9:53 AM.

That's about 2½ hours of catamaran ride from Ushuaia. Of course, you can't ignore the cormorants and seals along the way. So we did stop for some photo ops — about 10 minutes.

They beached the boat so that we could get fairly close.

Magellans have distinctive white curve around the eye.
