Ushuaia, Argentina

Beagle Channel

Day 16: Saturday, January 19, 2002

A bird perches atop lichen-covered rocks.

He takes flight to hunt for brunch.

Soon after leaving the seal rocks we came to the Beagle Channel. There we turned left to head east along the channel to the island of the penguin colony.

Puerto Williams, Chile on the Beagle Channel

The Puerto Williams people argue that their city is actually the southernmost city in the world, not Ushuia. They have a have a point. Argentina argues that Puerto Williams is much too small to be considered a city. They have a point, too.

Puerto Williams exists mostly to service Beagle Channel, provide navigation pilots, etc.
