Welcome to Venice
Day 19: Friday, April 29, 2005
It's 6:44 AM, and we have arrived in Venice! Photos by Pat Tyler

We were in what is known as Canale di San Marco. After passing through the narrow
entrance to Laguna Veneta, we passed by Lido Island which protects the lagoon from the Adriatic Sea.
It was a misty gray morning, and the colors were well muted.
The Campanile at San Giorgio Church
The bell tower was wrapped in scaffolding when we were in Venice.
We noticed that one part of the city or another was constantly under repair.
Santa Maria della Salute Basilica
This church campus marks the beginning of the famous Grand Canal of Venice.
The entrance to the canal is near the right edge of the picture.
Le Zitelle Church
Turning into the larger Canale Della Giudecca, tug boats come to meet us while Le Zitelle dominates the distant shoreline.
