Palazzo della Signoria, or Palazzo Vecchio
This palace was constructed and reconstructed between the 13th and 16th centuries. After the coming to power of Cosimo I de' Medici, who moved into the palace with all his family,
the palace became the center of government for many years.
The palace houses the offices of the city council.

The huge rectangular space of Piazza Santa Croce, is the result of a 13th-14th century urban project whose mediaeval origins can still be clearly seen in many of the buildings surrounding its perimeter.
