Maria Elena, our guide. After spending more than 24 hours in air planes and airports, we were happy to see this perky lady who met us at Rio's international airport. We were a little early for embarkation on the ms Ryndam, so we were treated to a tour of the city.

Modern City / Modern Traffic

We found Rio de Janeiro to be a modern city with a deep history.
Now a city of 6 million people, the site of Rio de Janeiro, was discovered on January (Janeiro) 1, 1502 by Portuguese navigators who mistook the entrance of Guanabara Bay for the mouth of a river (Rio).

Football Stadium That's soccer to us! Right and below: We drove by the stadium that hosts the famous champion Brazilan soccer team. The Brazilians and the Argentines maintain a fierce rivalry in soccer and many other aspects of their national lives.
