Church On The Shore

The first European Christian missionary, Englishman John Williams of the London Missionary Society (LMS), arrived in 1832. Williams and his followers had a profound impact on Samoans and their culture. The Samoans continue to be quite religious and enjoy the activities provided by their churches.

Village Shopping

Most of the people live in villages, mostly on the southern side of the island.

There is a sense of two worlds—a quickly moving commercial mainland world
and a slower paced world of traditional village and family life—
that somehow occupy the same space and time.
