Lisbon, Portugal Area Map
Area Tour Route
Day 10: Wednesday, April 20, 2005
Map of Tagus River and the region surrounding Lisbon.
This map displays the beautiful protected harbor area that attracted early sea-faring men and encouraged them to settle there. Their descendants became some of the famous explorers of the era of exploration in the 15th century.
This is the approximate route of our tour heading south of Lisbon.
We crossed the 10 mile-long Vasco de Gama Bridge and traveled to the fishing village of Setúbal, then through the Arrabida Mountains along the coast. Nearly back to Lisbon, we stopped by the village of Alamada near the south terminus of the April 25th Bridge to see the famous Christ the Redeemer Statue. We crossed the bridge, which we were told is the second largest in Europe, and then went back to the ship just in time for lunch.
