To Torres del Paine
On The Road
Day 17: Sunday, January 20, 2002
Looks like we're in the rain shadow of the Andes.
They loaded us into two buses and off we went through the arid ranchlands.
We didn't come even close to the town of Puerto Natales.
This area must be in the rain shadow of the Andes.
Typically, regions near mountains that receive winds from across the mountains do not receive adequate rainfall because the clouds are lifted to go over the mountains, and the lifting makes them drop their moisture content. By the time they get to the area that is in the rain shadow, there is not enough moisture left for precipitation.
The Dusty Road Ahead
Our earthen highway leads into the Andes.
