Giuseppe Garibaldi Square
Giuseppe Garibaldi Square is the square that you find after walking on Ponte di Mezzo.
It stands at the beginning of the tourist area called Borgo Stretto. The arcades of Borgo Stretto invite visitors to wander around and treat themselves to elegant Italian fashions. Or branch off into Via Vernagalli and Via Mercanti, which are also ideal for shopping, enjoying delicious snacks or simply strolling.

Many of the magnificent buildings were built the 11-13th centuries, Pisa's Golden Age.
During this time, the city was one of the maritime powers of the Mediterranean. Pisa's political climax occurred when they defeated the Sacreans and brought back the Arab's knowledge of science, architecture, and philosophy. But soon their power and prosperity declined. In 1284, they were defeated by the Genoese, who filled up Pisa's harbor. After 1406, Pisa was governed by the Medici rulers of Florence. During their rule Pisa's university was reestablished. One of its most famous instructors was Galileo.
