Hong Kong Map

The realities of Hong Kong's geography have done much to shape its present-day characteristics. On the southeast coast of China at the mouth of the Pearl River, 75 miles from the trading center of Guangzhou, the SAR comprises the island of Hong Kong, Kowloon on the mainland opposite, and the New Territories to the north. Kowloon and the New Territories form a peninsula which borders the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone along the Shenzhen River. The territory also includes more than 230 islands.

The coastline is irregularly indented. Hills rise spectacularly as high as 3000 feet, leaving little room for farming. But the territory is perfectly suited for shipping. The land here is an extremely valuable commodity.
