Gander At A Gaggle of Geese

Geese-093004-734a

The geese decided to graze on the empty lots in the subdivision behind our house. The flock was so large that I couldn't begin to get them in one picture. There must have been at least a thousand birds in this gaggle. We noticed the visitors at about 7:30 AM on September 30, 2004.

They all pretty much move along together, but this smaller group led the way. Notice the large gander nearest the lower right corner above and right-center below. This fellow was one of the guards.

The guard kept his eye on me the whole time that I stood near by to take the pictures. Naturally, I took care to be very still.

They took their time and just mosied along. A neighbor whose home is just out of the picture shot a flash picture just before I started shooting. Surprisingly, they didn't panic and fly away. They were on the road when she left in the car. They were in no hurry to get out of the way. She had to creep to keep from hitting them!

This picture was taken September 27, 2004 at 9:30 AM. I had not taken the time to install the tele-photo lens that morning as I did on the 30th.

Don't go away. See the geese on a rainy morning a few days later.
