The Orange-Trimmed Bridge

Our guide said that the color of the bridge trim was for the oranges they raise in the area. The town spans the river, so they need a nice new bridge for transportation.

However, the narrator of a recent PBS film on Chinese bridges said a bridge trimmed in red is for good luck. Both ideas seem plausible and beneficial.

We cruised right by the dam construction site, and they didn't even tell us! We were at breakfast seated at on the wrong side of the dining room to see anything. We'd gladly skipped breakfast in exchange for the view that we could have had while so close.
